Case for action - Where's the burning platform?

To get an understanding of the case for change, you need to ...

  1. Identify the push / pull factors
  2. Conduct a stakeholder analysis
  3. Do a NAFI check - "Not Another Flaming Initiative"

Identify the push / pull factors

Push Factors ...

... theses are the factors that are causing you Dissatisfaction with your current situation. What irritations have led you to be here today?

Identifying push factors requires you to look backwards ...

What's irritating you? Why are you concerned?

  • What is the seriousness? ($$, impact, size)
  • What is the urgency? (time, deadline)
  • What is the growth? (increasing/decreasing/stable)

Why spend energy on this pursuit?
Why is it important to be pursued NOW?
What would happen if you didn't do anything?

Pull Factors ...

... these are the factors that are Attracting you towards a new beginning. What’s drawing you to the future?

Identifying pull factors requires you to look forward ...

What is the opportunity?
Why is this opportunity worth pursuing?
What is the business going to get out of it?
Is this project the only option to address the opportunity?
… What is the “prize”?

Conduct a stakeholder analysis

A stakeholder is a party who is interested in what you are setting out to achieve ... in what you are doing and who can, by their actions/decisions, affect the outcome.

Brainstorm a list of ALL stakeholders. For each key stakeholder identify:

The nature of their interest/what they want from you!
What tactics you need to adopt to address their interest

Doing a NAFI check - "Not Another Flaming Initiative"
